Star Wars the Force Awakens – Rey custom repaint doll

– the long slumbering star wars fan in me. So, after crying over the wonderful The Force Awakens trailer, I took a brunette Barbie doll and tried to paint her as Rey.

Not perfect, considering trying to transfer a generic barbie face, but if and when the actual Daisy Ridley face sculpts (oh how I wish for a doll and not some ugly action figures) appear, they would be so nice to repaint and most likely to gain nice resemblance. In the meantime, this Rey doll brightens up my day, waiting for the movie 🙂
And no, I don’t have tickets… I don’t have anyone to go with so I didn’t want to try to get opening night tickets for the fear my social anxiety might prevent me from going alone
And then there would be an empty seat at the opening. Not fair for the one who didn’t get a ticket.
It really has been that bad lately, I’ll just try covering my ears from gossip after opening and sneak in to see a day show some time soon…

BarbieFans deviant Art group

If you are on deviantart and like fashion dolls – or not yet have an account but might like to join, it’s like a social media/ art portfolio platform but with people posting their art and creations instead of selfies 😀
Here is the BarbieFans deviantArt group I was asked to moderate, otherwise it might have been closed. Wouldn’t want that… Instead, there is now fantastic Barbie doll customization gallery, and even the genius that is Noel Cruz submits to the group 😀  In the Gallery you got to scroll Barbie and doll photos and fan art people have submitted.
If you’re new to dA, I’m happy to help you with the site 🙂 I know, it pretty much still looks the same it did 7 years ago when I joined… but unlike most social media today, there is very little trolling or bullying. Artist want to encourage each other!
The age limit to join is 13 (like everything online) and I believe mature filter is set on by default, and you have to manually set it off if you wish to explore the more saucy art posted there.
BarbieFans group however does not allow mature content at all.

Free Printables: Animal, pirates and ninjas halloween masks for fashion dolls!

Went on and designed a few silly masks for regular playscale fashion dolls like Barbies to print at home 😀
Or, just for fun, or to tease your guinea pig (oh don’t tease guinea pigs…) or print out 50% to get dollhouse scale.
I know they don’t look like much, but took hours for me to make them… I may refine them later and update, but then again, there’s only so many free hours in a day so I thought better share now as otherwise I might forget…

Print on thicker paper/cardstock. The original is postcard size, approx 10x15cm /4×6” so make sure you’re printing 100% and NOT fit to page otherwise you’ll end up with huge masks! Unless, you want 1/3 masks for SD BJD, then choose to print Fit to page, it might work, let me know! 😀 Though the print quality may be very poor if printed bigger, I re-scaled these to allow easy print in their intended size.

Don’t have a printer?

Made them available as higher resolution greeting cards on Cafepress, should you not have a printer, or maybe someone might find this a nice idea for a combined birthday card including a little gift. The card is folded so you can still write your message there and it won’t get cut 🙂 And honestly, if I’d go and print these to sell, the price would be much higher than cafepress cards…

How to make?

Tutorial coming later! Craft should be easy enough to make without instructions, but there are a few tips and tricks I’d like to share to make sure you won’t get frustrated with this tiny craft – it can be tricky making delicate little masks, so hoping to make video tutorial next week-end.

How to sew cape for dolls – Halloween costume tutorial for fashion doll

How to sew Halloween costume cape for fashion dolls and figurines – yes, the size works for 1/6 scale action figures as well.

I tried to make this as simplified as I could… You can make it no-sew cape too, and use fabric glue.
This is part 1 of 3 for How to make vampire halloween costume for fashion dolls youtube video tutorials.
Parts 2 and 3 are for how to sew doll corset and skirt. Possible accessories video may come later this month, so feel free to make requests if you’d like to know how to make something halloween themed 🙂

18th century clothes for playscale / Barbie dolls

These I made maybe 4 years ago, today I have tweaked doll patterns, and managed to get a little better at miniature sewing.

Next week, I am working on a commission of making  some historical style clothing for both male and female playscale dolls, patterned new bodices and even a pannier (side cage) for a Barbie to be able to achieve the famous wide Rococo dresses!

Witch hat and cape – Free Doll size Pattern

Halloween is near! It’s still time to make costumes… for dolls!
Here is an easy sew (or even no sew if you’re good with glue) pattern for a sixth scale fashion doll. The cape can cater to more dolls, the hat is patterned to fit Barbie size head. You can attach a ribbon to make it sit on top of bigger dolls head, or over a hairdo.

You need: Thin craft felt (or just paper!) for the hat, some ribbon, and fabric for the cape.
For putting things together, either needle and thread, or fabric glue.

Craft felts on amazon – get the felt on this one, not foam – the glue I use for fabrics is FabriTac   (it costs 3-times more to me because of postages to ship to Finland, but I still buy it because it’s the best!) Cape fabric you most likely find around house. Recycle an old shirt you don’t wear anymore? If you’re a kid and parents are still buying your clothes, ALWAYS ASK THEM which are okay to recycle and explain why you need to do that to avoid getting into trouble 🙂 You might even get your mom to go through their wardrobe and give you some awesome things to recycle.

Print out the pattern at 100% with no margin (should fit full A4). Sorry about scruffy lines, I was in a hurry to post this before Halloween… just cut it smooth…
Or, if you don’t have printer, the pattern pieces are quite simple, so you might try to draw your own freehand with your doll as a size guide.
The seam allowances on the hat are small (0.6mm)

If your cape fabric frays, you want to glue or sew around the edges to stop that. If you find fabric that doesn’t fray, or you like the fray effect, all you need to do with the cape is cut it out, and attach a tying ribbon on the top edge. Remember to make it long enough so it’s easy to make a bow.

The hat, cut the pieces out of craft felt. sew the straight edges together to make a cone.
Attach the lover edge of the cone into the brim. You may need to cut the little slits, or stretch the felt a little to make it fit.

You can attach them with fabric glue, or sewing. Hand stitching recommended. You may also try to make a hat with colored paper, if you don’t have suitable fabric/felt at hand!

I know I’m not really good at explaining… And there are lots of doll heads that might want a witches hat, so maybe I’ll try to make a little video tutorial on how to make these in other sizes and how to attach them.

Or is there one already? I found this one that is making Monster High witch hat with paper.
